Arrange a visitWhy use a Handyman?
A professional handyman can solve many problems around the house, for example I am painting a window and have found extensive rot. Call a carpenter? No, I have cut in a piece of new timber.
What rates do you charge?
Typically, I like to view a job before quoting, and I find customers like a fixed price. So, you will always know the price in advance.
Do you include materials in your quotes?
Materials are usually extra, unless specifically mentioned in your quote. However, some standard items can be included (white paint, fillers, sandpaper etc.)
Are there jobs that you will not take on?
Some jobs need specialist tools, expertise or are prohibited by legislation. I will always advise if your project needs a specialist and I can co-ordinate this for you.
Which paints do you recommend?
For exterior work I prefer Dulux Weathershield, and Dulux or Crown for interior woodwork.

“Stuart recently built a large garden office for us at the bottom of our garden. I am incredibly grateful for his hard work. Stuart spent a day demolishing our sheds before building the garden office from top to bottom.”
“Stuart is hard-working, honest and trustworthy. From the beginning of the job till the end, I felt like the project was in safe hands and had absolute faith in his judgement. He was friendly, communicative and a pleasure to deal with. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any similar jobs.”
“Thank you Stuart!”
“Stuart recently boarded our loft and did a fantastic job. He has done work for us previously (tiling a kitchen and fitting a bathroom) and his work is always neat, with clever engineering solutions implemented for tricky corners. He turns up when he says he will (which not all tradespeople do!) and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Worth the wait if he's booked up :-)”
“Stuart is well established in MH and has repaired and remodelled at my own home and my mums. He was on time and executed a quality job every time, willing to listen to the customer requirements and adjust how the job would be done to meet a budget without compromising quality. Thoroughly recommend Stuart for jobs small to large.”
“Stuart is very professional, considered, neat and his attention to detail is second to none. We have engaged him to do numerous painting jobs and everytime the results have been exemplary. I would not hesitate to recommend him.”
“Stuart the Harborough Handyman is highly recommended ! He has done a number of home improvement projects for me , and I am delighted with all the work he has done. At quotation stage he listens well to the project idea and gives helpful input and a number of potential solutions - and his prices are fair . He is honest, and very reliable for doing the work on the agreed dates. Standard of work is excellent, as is the cleaning up afterwards.”
Top Tips
A few things I've learned on the job.
Free advice for your own DIY. And if you'd rather not, you know who to call.
Stains showing through your paint? Water marks, unsightly knots?
Check out the Zinsser range of stain blocking primers.
Rollers that spray paint everywhere?
Microfibre rollers hold the paint much better and apply it to the wall, where it belongs.
Pictures or curtain poles are level but look wonky?
Sometimes you have to line them up with the lines nearby that draw your eye such as the ceiling, picture rail etc.
Sash Windows rotten? Thinking of PVC?
Stop, even the worst windows can be refurbished.
Screwdrivers chew up your screws?
Never use the screws that come with a curtain pole for example, they are cheap and very soft. Buy decent hard screws that you can trust from a builders merchant.
